Dr. Kem is an expert in endocrinology, metabolism and hypertension and how they impact the heart. He previously served as the section chief at the Department of Medicine at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center for endocrinology, metabolism and hypertension. Dr. Kem is founder, trustee, and coordinator of the A. Kurt Weiss Lectureship in Biomedical Ethics, a monthly grand rounds lecture for medical students. He also serves as a faculty advisor to the local chapter of the Christian Medical and Dental Association.
Education:
- Medical degree earned at Columbia University in New York City
- Residency and internship fulfilled at University Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
- National Institutes of Health trainee and teaching associate in the division of endocrinology at University Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
Research interests:
- Mechanisms leading to rapid arrhythmias that bring about sudden cardiac death following heart attacks
- Identifying the means in which hyperglycemia may lead to diabetic complications of the heart and blood vessels
- Endocrine hypertension, which pertain to the systems that control hormones, metabolism and gland communication
- Renovascular hypertension, which deals with blood vessels of the kidney
- Adrenal tumors
- Identifying the means in which hyperglycemia may lead to diabetic complications of the eyes, heart and blood vessels
